Ohrid City Guided Tour

4.5/5
4 reviews

Ohrid is a treasure trove of historical, cultural, and religious heritage, with roots reaching back to antiquity. Renowned for its distinctive architecture and timeless atmosphere, the city attracts an increasing number of visitors each year—yet it still retains a peaceful, authentic charm as an alternative travel destination. Since 1979, both the Old Town of Ohrid and Lake Ohrid have been proudly listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Your guided walking tour begins in Ohrid's main square, where you'll meet your local guide and step into the city's rich past. Along the way, you'll discover some of Ohrid's most iconic landmarks, including the statue of St. Kliment, the lively boulevard, the 13th-century Church of St. Sofia, the ancient amphitheater, and many more hidden gems.

After a relaxing coffee break, the tour continues through the enchanting streets of the Old Town, leading you to the world-famous Church of St. John at Kaneo. Perched dramatically on a cliff above the crystal-blue waters of Lake Ohrid, this breathtaking site was famously described by Dutch writer A. den Doolaard as “the place where heaven and earth meet.”

Throughout the tour, your knowledgeable guide will bring Ohrid's history to life with captivating stories and insights, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience in one of the Balkans' most beautiful cities.

Confusion at the start of the tour, the printed ticket for the tour had 2 start times 9:00 & 9:30 & location. On the day we received a txt saying the tour would start at 9:30. We arrived at the start on the ticket & met another guest for the tour who had been waiting since 9:00 as he hadn’t had the txt. By 9:40 and no guide we were concerned. Reread txt & noted the location had also changed to 2 kilometres away!! Having met Ziggy, the guide, he was excellent and did a brilliant tour & saved day!

The guide was very knowledgeable, and made sure to take stop breaks on the hills of old town so it wasn't too much for some of the attendees. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the tour itself, and prior to the tour the local Tui rep was good at double checking people had chosen the right date as they also run the tours in Dutch.
