Ephesus & Sirince Guided Tour from Altinkum

4/5
5 reviews

Follow timeworn paths trodden by the ancients during this tour of Ephesus and Sirince. The classical Greek city of Ephesus was the location of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – the Temple of Artemis. We'll tour the site with a guide, then visit the pretty mountain village of Sirince. Gökhan, one of our expert local guides, says, "The Library of Celsus was built as a mausoleum to Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, and could hold 12,000 scrolls. Austrian archaeologists restored it in the 1970s to its current state, and it is easy to imagine scholars studying here."

This tour takes you into sun-soaked hills clad with olive groves to discover one of the most extensive and complete archaeological sites in the world. On arrival at Ephesus, you'll follow marble-paved streets to gaze at mosaics in ancient Roman houses and admire epoch-defining buildings such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and the Grand Theatre. With your guide to explain the historical context, you'll get more from your visit.

After a thorough exploration of Ephesus, we'll make our way to charming Sirince. It's a little less ancient, but a sense of yesteryear permeates in this mountainside village. Here, you'll have lunch at a typical restaurant before enjoying some free time to stroll along its cobbled streets. Browse the local shops for a souvenir, sip a genuine Turkish coffee in a café, or seek out the local fruit wine – the pomegranate is a popular one.

The tour guide to have a microphone and attendeees to have a headset to hear what the tour guide is explain. Similar technology used for other tour groups that were exploring Ephesus with us.

I loved the history of the place, it definitely is not a place for people with walking difficulty's, but it was beautiful and the excitation is still on going, would have loved to see archaeologist's at work and maybe help help and learn more for 10 or 15 minutes, but I loved the journey through time

The guide needed to speak louder, our group was a small one but hardly anyone could hear the guide. Not as much time in Ephesus as had previously and that was the main part of the trip, seemed very rushed.

The day trip was very well-organised and the guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Ephesus and the surrounding areas. Wish we had more information about Sirince though but other than that, everything was seamless and enjoyable.

There were so many people at Ephesus and our guide, although lovely, was very softly spoken. If we could have had headsets like most other tour groups I would have heard more and not missed so much. The lunch was poor. The buffet in the back for other tour groups looked a lot more appealing so I know the restaurant is capable of providing better food than we were served. Sirince was ok but we lost our guide so missed out on the wine tasting. The stops to the ceramic and Turkish delight places were a bit unnecessary, and over priced in my opinion. I would rather of had more time in Ephesus. Overall it was a nice day out but could have been sooo much better.
