Venture into the heart of Mavrovo National Park, the largest nature park in the Balkans and a wilderness where bears and lynxes still roam freely. The park is known for its mountain peaks, clear lakes, deep canyons and dense forests. For centuries, shepherds have brought their flocks here to escape the summer heat of the valleys, and with a bit of luck, you may encounter them along the way.
High in the mountains, you'll enjoy scenic walks across open plateaus before visiting Galicnik, one of North Macedonia's most famous mountain villages. Galicnik is known for its architecture, local customs and wedding celebrations. On the way back, before entering the monastery, you'll have free time to savour a meal at your own expense at a traditional restaurant located near the Bigorski Monastery.
Then you'll visit the remote and impressive Bigorski Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Macedonia. This medieval complex remains an active spiritual centre, home to more than 30 monks who live in isolation, dedicating their lives to faith and prayer.
