On this excursion, you will discover the picturesque medieval town of Kilkenny and its impressive Norman castle.
Located in the ancestral heart of Ireland, Kilkenny is known as the “Marble City” thanks to the distinctive black limestone found in the surrounding area, which decorates many of its buildings.
Throughout the tour, you will discover some of the town’s most famous stories and legends, including the tale of the Kilkenny cats and that of Ireland’s oldest witch.
You will also learn about Kilkenny’s historic division between English Town and Irish Town, as well as its many churches, abbeys, and monasteries.
Enjoy a visit to the magnificent Kilkenny Castle, beautifully situated on a bend of the River Nore. Inside, you will explore over 800 years of history and gain insight into the lives of its residents, including the influential Duke of Ormonde. The castle’s stunning rose garden is another highlight of the visit.
You will have free time for lunch and to explore Kilkenny’s famous pubs, where you can enjoy a pint of Smithwick’s, the beer brewed in the town.
You may also use your free time to wander through the medieval streets and visit St. Canice’s Cathedral, a magnificent example of English Gothic architecture standing proudly on a hill overlooking the city.
