The Castle of Taormina, also known as the Arab-Norman Castle, Saracen Castle, or Castle of Monte Tauro, rises majestically at 397 meters above sea level, offering a unique 360-degree panoramic view. From here, your gaze stretches across the Strait of Messina, the Ionian coast, the Alcantara Valley, the slopes of Mount Etna, and, to the west, the city of Catania and the Peloritani Mountains. Thanks to its privileged position, it is also called “The Castle of the Four Panoramas.”
It can be reached by walking up a scenic panoramic staircase carved into the rock, starting from the small Church of the Madonna della Rocca. The structure, with its distinctive trapezoidal shape, still preserves its high perimeter walls, a watchtower, a rainwater cistern, an underground corridor once used for storing provisions, and two visitable caves. A dramatic fan-shaped staircase leads to the keep, the highest part of the Castle.
