A sheltered marina, sandy beaches, and views across the Gulf of Arzachena make Cannigione a relaxed base for exploring Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. Set on the northern coast, this former fishing village combines a laid-back waterfront with easy access to the Maddalena Archipelago, secluded coves, and the granite landscapes of Gallura. You can spend your days swimming in the Mediterranean, sailing between islands, or exploring the countryside around the coast. Back in the village, stroll along the harbour, browse local shops, and settle down for fresh seafood and traditional Sardinian dishes.

1. Relax on Cannigione’s beaches

Spend a few hours at La Conia beach, where clear water and a sandy shoreline make it easy to unwind by the sea. The surrounding Gulf of Arzachena has more small beaches and sheltered bays to explore, so you can switch between swimming, sunbathing, and coastal walks. The calm waters also make it a great spot for kayaking and other watersports.

2. Sail to the Maddalena Archipelago

Cannigione is a convenient starting point for boat trips around the Maddalena Archipelago. Cruise past rocky islands and turquoise coves, stopping to swim and snorkel in clear Mediterranean water. Depending on the route, you may visit islands such as Spargi and Budelli, known for their striking coastlines and secluded beaches.

3. Explore the Gallura countryside

Head inland to experience a different side of northern Sardinia, with granite hills, cork oak trees, and traditional villages. You can also visit nearby Arzachena, where archaeological sites such as the Nuragic complex of La Prisgiona offer a glimpse into the island’s ancient past. Back in Cannigione, try local specialities such as seafood pasta, grilled fish, pecorino cheese, and Vermentino wine.
