Båttur langs Karpathos' østkyst og besøk i landsbyen Olympos
Tidsslitte Olympos er juvelen i Karpathos' robuste krone. Plassert på toppen av en bratt fjellrygg, er denne landsbyen et levende museum der lokalbefolkningen fortsatt bærer tradisjonelle broderte kostymer og eldgamle levemåter fortsatt er i live. Sophia, en av lokalguidene våre, sier: "Olympos har vært mer eller mindre isolert så lenge at lingvister kommer for å studere den lokale dialekten, som har eldgamle røtter. Selv i dag, med besøkende fra hele verden, vokter lokalbefolkningen sin arv med hard hånd. Tradisjonelt håndverk, musikk og jordbruk er en viktig del av hverdagen her."Vi starter turen fra havnen i Karpathos og cruiser langs kysten til havnebyen Diafani, der en buss venter for å kjøre oss opp i de tørre åsene i nordvest for å utforske Olympos – sentrum for gresk mat og kultur. Sophia sier: "Byen er kanskje ikke så stor, men det er mye å se her likevel. Håndverksverksteder, et museum, historiske vindmøller og flere bittesmå ortodokse kirker ligger spredt rundt i byen. Ikke gå glipp av den rikt dekorerte Ekklisía Koimíseos tis Theotókou-kirken."Etter tid på egen hånd til å utforske de pastellblå og beige smugene i Olympos og kanskje spise lunsj, kan du nyte den blendende utsikten over havet en siste gang før turen går tilbake til Diafani. Her får du litt tid til å spasere langs strandpromenaden, se båtene komme og gå mens du slapper av med en drink i en bar eller tar turen til stranden for en dukkert. Deretter går vi om bord i båten for å returnere til Karpathos by.
