This three-day adventure takes you from Marrakech into the heart of Morocco’s untamed Chegaga Desert, crossing mountain passes, ancient kasbahs and endless desert landscapes along the way. From the dramatic scenery of the High Atlas Mountains to camel trekking across golden dunes at sunset, this journey blends cultural discovery with an authentic Sahara experience beneath the stars.
Day one begins with an early departure from Marrakech as you travel through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, passing rugged peaks, winding valleys and traditional Berber villages along the route. One of the highlights of the journey is a stop at Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its fortified kasbah and appearances in films such as Gladiator and Babel. After lunch, continue through the striking landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the palm-filled Draa Valley before arriving in Zagora, known as the gateway to the desert. Here, you’ll settle into a comfortable hotel for the night ahead of your Sahara adventure.
Rise and shine on day two and head towards Tamgeroute, a small desert town celebrated for its ancient library and traditional pottery workshops. The journey continues to M’Hamid, the final settlement before the vast Sahara dunes begin. From here, swap wheels for camels and set off across the golden Chegaga dunes as the desert changes colour beneath the setting sun. By evening, you’ll arrive at a traditional Berber haima camp, where dinner, music and storytelling around the fire create a truly magical desert atmosphere. Sleeping beneath a sky filled with stars is the real highlight of this experience.
On day three, enjoy breakfast in the peaceful desert surroundings before continuing your journey across the dry lake of Iriqui, where vast open landscapes stretch endlessly towards the horizon. Travelling through dramatic desert scenery and remote Berber settlements, you’ll pass through the town of Taznakht before beginning the return journey towards Marrakech, bringing your Sahara adventure to a close.
