Tenerife's greatest natural wonder, Mount Teide, is one of the world's largest island volcanos and Spain's highest peak. Avoiding the busiest times of the day, this exclusive guided tour explores unique habitats and offers unbeatable views over Tenerife and other islands in the Canaries. Juana, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Teide National Park and the surrounding Corona Forestal Nature Reserve together account for one third of Tenerife's land mass – the extent to which the volcano dominates our island is staggering.'
At 3,718 metres above sea level, it's fair to say Mount Teide doesn't just dominate Tenerife, but the whole archipelago. And it's the centrepiece of its own National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Juana says, ‘The park boasts a variety of camera-grabbing landscapes. There's the scorched earth of the lava fields, the jagged rock formations of Roques de Garcia, the Mars-like badlands around Montaña Rajada and the pine forests of the Corona Forestal.'
The park's trails have you pass through four different climate zones, which create an ever-changing kaleidoscope of terrains, flora and fauna. From lunar-like lava fields, you'll wander through forests of Canarian pine and across rocky ridges. A visit to the finger-like Roques de Garcia rounds off the trip. It is a great place to view even more of the valley. What's more, because of the early morning start to the excursion, the queues will be shorter.

Full Day Tenerife Tour with La Laguna and Lunch
Dusty and lunar-like in the south, green and mountainous in the north, Tenerife packs a continent into one island. Think quaint villages, stunning views and a local lunch on this full day experience. You'll visit the UNESCO-listed old town of La Laguna, drop into a bodega for lunch and explore an aloe vera plantation. Arianne, one of our local expert guides, says, ‘Canarian bananas are smaller but thicker, and their peel has dark speckles. The pulp is yellower, and it should be eaten riper, which makes it sweeter.'First up is a visit to an aloe vera plantation. Here, you'll learn about the healing qualities – especially skincare – of this crop. Then it's on to La Laguna, arguably the prettiest town on the island. Throw in its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it makes for a real gem of a stop. Wander its poker-straight streets of pastel-coloured palaces and colonial-era churches and convents, or stop for a coffee in one of the cool tree-lined plazas. Taste local products such as marmalade and cheese in the weekly market and admire the town's famous flower displays.It's then on to a family-run bodega for a typical Canarian lunch surrounded by vintage bottles and aged barrels. Island exploration doesn't get much better than this. On this full day experience, you'll venture into both a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arianne, one of our local guides, says, ‘I really love this tour because it's an overdose of nature, focusing on the volcanology of the present and the past.' But there's more – there's also the remote village of Taganana, viewpoints and one of the most popular beaches in Tenerife.Leaving your hotel in an eight-seater minivan, you'll head to La Laguna, famed for its pastel-coloured palaces and collection of Mudejar-style chapels, churches and convents. A quarter of the town's structures date from the colonial period up to the 18th century. So rich is its architectural heritage that UNESCO listed it in 1999 because of its authenticity. After free time to explore La Laguna at your own pace, why not mingle with locals at the weekly market?From here, you'll head to the crescent-shaped beach of Las Teresitas, complete with palm trees. The scenery changes dramatically next, as we journey through the laurel forest of Las Mercedes en route to Taganana. This whitewashed hamlet cascades down a slope in Anaga Rural Park. Here, you'll enjoy a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients in a family-run restaurant. The afternoon features a scenic drive through the volcanic Anaga Mountains – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – stopping at the 360-degree viewpoint at Pico del Inglés and at Cruz del Carmen viewpoint.

A stop at Roques de Garcia allows you to take some pics near these iconic rock formations, with the volcano's cone in the background.Grab a last look at the lava-scarred landscapes at Poleos viewpoint before dropping into a family-run restaurant for a lunch made from seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Rounding off the day is a visit to Masca – a hard-to-reach hamlet perched on a ridge in a deep volcanic gorge. Enjoy free time to poke around and take in the vistas.
