The museum is located in the old Convent of La Merced, in the heart of Seville. The building dates back to the 13th century and was remodelled in the 17th century. Here, you'll be able to enjoy not only the various exhibitions, but also the wonderful Renaissance and Baroque architecture as you stroll through its cloisters. The building has been a museum since 1835, housing works from convents and monasteries seized by the liberal government of MendizĂĄbal.
You'll admire Sevillian Gothic works, great works of the Renaissance such as San Jerónimo Penitente of Torrigiano; Pacheco's pictorial series dedicated to the Mercedarians San Pedro Nolasco and San Romån Nonato, representing Mannerism; Baroque works by great Sevillian and not so Sevillian artists such as Valdés Leal, Zurbarån or Alonso Cano.
Visit the spectacular room dedicated to BartolomĂ© Esteban Murillo, and sculptures of historical figures such as MartĂnez Montañés or Juan de Mesa.
