Beskrivelse

This ultimate sightseeing tour of Ålesund will take you to several must-see spots in the area. In addition to sightseeing, you will visit a museum and learn about the Norwegian lifestyle through the ages, before finishing the day in the city centre.

Upon meeting your guide, you will get on a bus and you will drive through several underwater tunnels to reach the first destination, the Island of Giske. This island is very fertile, relatively flat and is characterized with the presence of many farms and grazing animals. Giske is known as the birthplace of the famous Viking Rollo, who was the first Duke of Normandy and an ancestor of the British Royal Family. You will have a photo stop at the marble church, which was built in the 12th century. The excursion continues to the beautiful island of Godøy and its typical fishing village Alnes. Here you can enjoy an amazing view over the Atlantic Ocean, visit the lighthouse or go for a stroll on the beach.

After visiting the islands you will go back several centuries in time, to the years when most Norwegians lived a hard life and survived thanks to agriculture and fishing. You will learn all about it at the Sunnmøre Museum. Your guide will lead you through the open-air part of the museum where 55 old houses are located. Some are open, meaning you can take a peek inside. Several exhibitions can be visited inside the main building, while in the boat house you will learn about how life in this part of Norway changed over the centuries.

The excursion continues to Mount Aksla, from where you can enjoy a spectacular view over the city and its surrounding islands. After driving down the mountain, the bus will take you through the city center where you can see colourful houses and buildings in Art Nouveau style. These were built between 1904 and 1907, after the fire which destroyed over 800 houses in the city center in January 1904.
