Sumo is as old if not older than Japan itself. At Asakusa Sumo Club, you'll embark on an enlightening journey through history, exploring how sumo has evolved over thousands of years. All this while savourin an authentic sumo-style meal in a cosy setting.
You'll witness demonstrations of morning exercises (asa geiko), various techniques (kimarite) and learn about the do's and don’ts of sumo wrestling before watching a thrilling best-of-three competition (tachiai) between retired wrestlers. Get a taste of Sumo firsthand by challenging the wrestlers to a match in the ring (limited to 8 participants per show). If there are too many applicants, challengers will be selected by lottery. Every seat offers an intimate view of the Dohyo (ring). To feel even closer to the action, consider upgrading to front row seating.
As a memento of your experience, you'll receive a gift bag of souvenirs and a framed photo of you and your group with the wrestlers and geisha. Before the sumo show, guests can also appreciate traditional Japanese dance performed by geisha in beautiful kimonos.
