The Amatller House Museum, key work of the architect Puig i Cadafalch, is one of the most exceptional buildings of modernist Catalan architecture in Barcelona and one of the most comprehensive house museums of Catalan Modernism.
Located in the manzana de la discordia (Block of Discord), along with the Casa Batlló by Antoni Gaudí and the Casa Lleo i Morera by Domènech i Montanter, the Amatller House Museum is an authentic hidden treasure in the heart of the city which conserves all of its splendour and the essence of the beginning of the century thanks to the existence of all of its original furniture and decoration, the fruit of extensive and careful restoration.
Designed in the year 1898 by the industrialist chocolatier Amatller Antoni, who had made his fortune by introducing industrial production methods into the family chocolate company “Amatller Chocolates”, today it’s the property of the Fundación Instituto Amatller de Arte Hispánico (Amatller Institute of Hispanic Art Foundation) which is a research and dissemination centre of the history of Hispanic art, with the mission of preserving, raising awareness about and conserving this incredible heritage in its original state.
