You'll be amazed at how just an hour's drive will bring us to the Khor Virap Monastery. The monastery sits on the Ararat plain, just a stone's throw away from the Turkish-Armenian border, and is surrounded by Russian military establishments. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the views of Mount Ararat. Next, you'll head southeast to the Geghard Monastery. This UNESCO World Heritage site was entirely dug out of the cliff rocks and is home to one of the most cherished relics of Christianity. You'll feel the spirituality and history emanating from the carved walls. After all that exploring, you'll take a break for lunch at a family restaurant in Garni village. Here, you'll get to taste the local specialty, lavash, a flatbread made in a traditional tonir. The next stop will be the Garni Temple, a first-century Graeco-Roman pagan temple, probably devoted to Mithra.
