The Algarve coastline is in a class of its own. On this boat trip aboard the Ophelia, you'll spot its most secluded beaches, eye-catching rock formations and fishing villages. Highlights include Ferragudo castle, Carvoeiro lighthouse and Benagil beach. And to round things off, there's a barbecue on the beach, too.

You'll sail out of Portimao and head eastwards. Pass a fantastical landscape of grottoes and strangely shaped rock formations that have been sculpted by the seas and winds over thousands of years. See the tiered 16th century Ferragudo castle – which cascades down into the sea – and the steep cliffs crowned by Carvoeiro lighthouse as well as the pockmarked rocks of Algar Seco.

And for the blockbuster Benagil beach, you'll get up close in smaller boats so you can admire this open-domed cave. There's also a trip onshore to a secluded beach for a well-deserved barbecue lunch. Do some snorkelling, play a bit of frisbee or simply relax on the sand.

Transfer from catamaran to speed boat very unsafe with the small boat constantly moving and smashing into the catamaran. Step down too big too. Were not told how to inflate the life jacket and on transfer to beach were told not to bother doing it up at all. No seats on beach so if you have leg problems it’s difficult to get up and down to sand. Barbecue was good. Visit to caves was madness lots of boats trying to get in same cave! Good speedboat drivers though thankfully

This is the 15th time I’ve done this trip! Always excellent with friendly, helpful staff. Lovely food with plenty on offer. The life jackets have improved since I last did this trip 3 years ago! Thank you again.

We did not go on the trip as we were not picked up. We booked it from the hotel and the pick up instruction was not clear enough.

We enjoyed the boat trip especially the speed boat trips into the caves, and the lunch was substantial. The sand on the beach for our lunch stop was very hot away from the water so bare feet are uncomfortable. Considering there were youngsters on board, some of the music on the return trip was a little dubious as it contained some explicit lyrics, some of which was foreign but didn't need translating.

Was a really good trip, the guides and boat people were very informative. They really made our trip worth while and the barbecue on trip was amazing

Great day, had fun and the caves and beach were stunning. Food was good, staff were awesome.
