Travel along the panoramic road on the north side of Mount Etna in special 4x4 vehicles (fee not included, to be paid on-site), passing ancient craters and recent lava flows up to an altitude of 2960 metres. You'll then ascend 3km on foot along a path made up of volcanic bombs and slag. You'll cover an uphill elevation gain of about 330 metres, bringing you to Etna's Central Crater at an altitude of 3300 metres. During the climb, you will take breaks for explanations and refreshments.

At the summit, admire the majestic volcanic environment and the spectacular view from the roof of Sicily (visibility may vary depending on weather or volcanic conditions). The 2km descent will take place along the same route taken uphill, only the last stretch will be inside small channels made up of soft and friable volcanic slag, on which it is possible to walk easily by adopting the necessary precautions. Once back at 2825 metres, the 4x4 vehicles will take you to Piano Provenzana.

Extra fees to be paid on-site:

The transport service from the meeting point to the starting point of the hike, carried out with special 4x4 vehicles authorised by Etna Park, is not included in the price. The cost is €60 per person and must be paid on-site to the guide. There is the possibility to pay it by card, but it's preferred by cash

Know in advance:

This tour requires a minimum of 6 participants
The minimum age to join the excursion is 12 years
This activity is designed for excursionists accustomed to walking at altitude. Trekking requires discrete physical preparation and attention
Please make sure to be well aware of your own health conditions on the day of the tour. If necessary, inform the guide in advance to avoid any risks
The activity is weather-dependent. Please note that the itinerary may vary in case of environmental, weather, or volcanic conditions that could affect the safety of the group
In case of bad weather or if the minimum number of participants is not reached, the tour will be refunded in full if it cannot be rescheduled to another date that is suitable for you
It is recommended not to wear contact lenses due to exposure to volcanic gases and ash

Remember to bring:

Trekking shoes are mandatory
Packed lunch, layered clothing (short-sleeved shirt, long-sleeved thermal shirt, fleece or sweatshirt), hiking shoes, windbreaker jacket, and water (minimum 1,5l)
It's strongly advised you also bring with you snacks, trekking poles, backpack, sunglasses, sunscreen, gloves and hat (depending on the season), spare socks and t-shirt, handkerchief or bandana (to protect against volcanic dust or gases)
