Spend a few hours taking in historic churches and peaceful sea views along the way. Top tip – bring an old-school paper map, as GPS doesn’t reach every crater.

2. Hire an e-bike to tour Methana

If you’re keen to explore a little further – and break less of a sweat – then an e-bike is a great way to see Methana. Many of the trails are bike-friendly, and with some pretty steep slopes, you’ll be pleased you opted for the boost of the electric motor. There are routes ranging from 20km to 45km that take in combos of volcanic and coastal landscapes – all with epic views.

3. Explore the Cave of Peristeri

The Cave of Peristeri is an ancient natural rock formation, dating back around two and a half million years. If you fancy a look at its underground lakes and pointy stalagmites, then you’re best taking a guide unless you’re an experienced caver. There are three chambers to explore, with two only reached by a small boat or by swimming. Indiana Jones wannabes will love this adventure.
