La Coupole is one of the most impressive historical monuments of the Second World War in Europe. With this ticket, you can visit the first German underground base for launching V2 rockets and learn about its history from an audio guide.
The site, built by the Todt organization in the autumn of 1943, was rehabilitated in 1997 into a History and Remembrance Center, and later equipped with a Resource and Research Centre as well as a 3D Planetarium, completing its scientific part. Inside La Coupole there is also a cafeteria that offers a wide range of dishes, and a shop where you can find articles and books about history, astronomy and science.
La Coupole was within firing range of the first rocket, the V2, to target London. During the visit, you'll explore this gigantic underground bunker made up of hundreds of meters of galleries. The bunker is topped by a dome covering the firing preparation room: a reinforced concrete half-sphere 77 meters in diameter and 5.5 meters thick, weighing 55,000 tonnes. The site was never operational, slowed down by the massive Allied bombardments and then by the Normandy landings.
