Discover Renaissance masterpieces and ancient Egyptian relics, along with paintings from the 13th to 20th centuries. The museum first opened on August 10, 1793, exhibiting just 537 paintings. Despite closing in 1796 due to structural problems, it reopened in 1801 as the Musée Napoléon with a larger collection.

The collection has since gained 20,000 works. Now, there are 8 departments: Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Paintings; and Prints and Drawings.

Wat heel jammer was omdat we speciaal entreekaarten met een tijdslot hadden gekocht. Ondanks dat hebben we ruim een uur in de rij gestaan om binnen te komen.

Jeg fikk aldri ordentlig svar fra TUI da jeg påpekte at jeg måtte betale full voksenpris til TUI for et barn på 12 og det siden viste seg at barn opp til 18 har gratis inngang til museet. En voksenbillett koster 22 euro. For dette betalte jeg nesten 700kr til TUI for en voksen og et barn. Jeg føler meg lurt og vil ikke anbefale noen denne utflukten. I det minste forventet jeg en forklaring og eventuelt et prisavslag men fikk aldri svar på henvendelsen.

The most visited museum in the world and easy to see why. We purchased skip-the-line tickets and did have to join a line (to skip the line) but it was quick - took only 10 minutes for entry on a Friday afternoon. Tip: wear comfy shoes and collect a museum map from the Information stand at entrance.

Skipping the line made a huge difference as this is such a popular attraction, plus there’s little shade for those in the main queue. The museum & gallery is incredible, so much to see & absorb, ideally you need to spend a whole day there.
