This is a rare opportunity to learn how to cook Swahili food in a Zanzibar traditional way. This authentic experience starts with the shopping at the local market in Darajani, Stone Town to buy the ingredients of the menu of the day with the assistance of the instructor.
The menu may include "supu ya pweza" (octopus soup) or "urojo" for the starter and aromatic Zanzibar dishes like "pilau", "biriani", "samaki, pweza or kuku wa kupaka" (chicken or seafood cooked in concentrated coconut milk), banana and cassava recipes for the main dishes; and "kaimati" or "visheti" for the desserts.
Once the appropriate ingredients are purchased, the instructor will demonstrate how the food is prepared and cooked with the opportunity to participate and try it yourself. Soon the food is cooked, participants share the food with their hosts in the traditional way.

Otroligt intressant att få besöka marknaden och köpa råvaror för att sedan besöka en familj där vi tillsammans lagade maten. Familjen och guiden berättade och förklarade matlagandet men gav också en bild av deras vardag och livssituation.
