You can choose a two-hour ride north to check out the epic 1968 shipwreck at Cabo Santa Maria and carve through the Viana Desert. Or, go big with a four-hour ride south through beachy highlights like Praia de Chaves, Varandinha's sea caves, 18 kilometres of Santa Monica Beach and a pit stop at the island's oldest village, Povoacao Velha.
